Schools offer financial aid to tsunami victims
Top of the World Elementary School is contributing a large
percentage of the $3,000 from the school’s annual holiday boutique to
the American Red Cross. Students are also pledging funds raised from
bake sales and a coin drive. Over the next few months, earnings from
the school’s recycling program will also be donated. For information,

Thurston Middle School’s Associated Student Body leadership and
Peer Assistance Leaders are collecting funds from every class to
donate to the American Red Cross. Teacher Jason Babiar said he will
match the funds from his class. For information, call (949) 497-7785.
Laguna Beach High School Associated Student Body commissioner of
events Connor Ficcadenti, 17, said the school has had a coin drive
for three weeks. So far they have collected about $2,000, with one
class donating $400. For information, call (949) 497-7750.
El Morro Elementary School’s student council is selling pencils at
lunch, donating all proceeds to UNICEF. The students chose UNICEF
because the charity specifically helps children.

St. Catherine of Siena school happenings
The school’s second annual open house to see the classrooms and
meet the teachers is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 30.
To aid and contribute to a Tsunami Relief Fund, St. Catherine’s is
asking students to do extra jobs around the house or in their
neighborhood to earn money for the tsunami victims. The school will
be donating all money raised to https://www.savethechildren.org.
through Feb. 4.
St. Catherine’s congratulates the following eighth-grade students
for achieving honor roll, 3.0 GPA or higher: Lauren Baker, Kara
Baldridge, Morgan Lewis, Kyle Morris, Isaiah Real, Kyle Snyder,
Nicole Velasco and Mackenzie Whelan. Students who are on the high
honor roll, 3.5 GPA or higher: Rebecca Caraveo, Ryan Cullinane, Tyler
DeTrude, Daniel Glenn, Maddie Holloway, Taylor LaBriola, Megan
McGannon, Peter McGinn, Megan Michaels, Thomas Pryor and Andy
Zettler.
