“Because I’m born and raised in Thailand, I want to help ... [but]

it’s not just for Thai people.”

-- Sam Tila, who has operated Royal Thai Cuisine on Coast Highway

for 23 years. He ran a fundraiser Friday to raise $10,000, which

he’ll donate to a U.S.-based tsunami relief fund.

“It’s been a little turbulent, yeah, but it could have been

worse,” he said. “If I’d have gotten elected [to the council] instead

of Linda Dixon, we wouldn’t have had a Planning Commission in

December.”

-- Bruce Garlich, Costa Mesa Planning Commission chairman, on the

commission having only two members now, which is not enough for it to

meet.

“Our problems are small compared to what we’ve seen on television

from this week. We’re lucky. The city workers did the best job they

could.”

-- Marie Schock, owner of Schock Boats in Cannery Village, part of

Newport Beach that flooded during the heavy rains and high tides last

week.

“I think it is logical in terms of where the parcels are located

within Costa Mesa that they remain within Costa Mesa. They’re

surrounded by Costa Mesa, and it would be like taking a knife and

cutting into the city and having a little island that is Newport

Beach in the middle of Costa Mesa.”

-- Katrina Foley, Costa Mesa City Councilwoman, on disputed county

land that lies between Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.

“I guess that’s what’s in everybody’s mind. What’s going on with

the investigation?”

-- Ed Welbourn, attorney for Skylar DeLeon, who bought the boat

owned by a couple that have since gone missing. DeLeon faces grand

theft charges.

“Greg has a physical and mental illness. Greg needs help. The type

of healthcare he needs is not provided at the jail.”

-- Jeff Barke, who has treated Greg Haidl since the end of his

first trial on rape charges in June, on Haidl’s condition.

“That’s what Orange County needs. It doesn’t need more retail; it

needs more entertainment.”

-- Steele Platt, chief executive of Yard House Restaraunts, LLC,

on what types of businesses Triangle Square should be trying to

attract.
