Stretch of 19th Street closes due to flooding
Hard rains shut down a portion of 19th Street Sunday, a Costa Mesa
Fire official said.
The street was closed between Anaheim and Park avenues at about
5:45 p.m. Sunday, the dispatcher said. There was no estimated time
when the road would reopen. Though no traffic collisions were
reported, several cars stalled on the flooded street.
The National Weather Service did not have rainfall figures for the
Costa Mesa area but did issue a flash flood warning for the Orange
County coast at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The warning was set to expire at
9:30 p.m.
Spill causes closure of Corona del Mar beach
The Orange County Health Care Agency shut down all of Corona del
Mar State Beach on Saturday.
A recorded message on the agency’s Ocean and Bay Closure and
Posting Hotline indicated that a sewage spill closed the beach from
the breakwater to Inspiration Point. Information on the severity of
the spill was not immediately available, and agency representatives
could not be contacted Sunday.
