Kay Laurel Wilson
Kay Laurel Wilson, of Three Arch Bay, died Dec. 15 after a long
illness. She was 87.
Born in Kintrye, N.D., Mrs. Wilson traveled to Laguna Beach in
1937 to visit relatives and stayed to attend Santa Ana Junior
College.
She married Laguna native Howard Wilson in 1938 in the
Presbyterian Church. Howard worked at Laguna Beach Lumber before
becoming a building designer. The couple lived on Cuprien Way until
building the family home in Three Arch Bay in 1949. Theirs was the
first home on the hillside.
While her husband was in the Navy during WWII, Mrs. Wilson worked
for Dr. Vincent Carroll in his clinic on Ocean Avenue. One of her
more memorable days was when Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall
happened to be in the office when over the radio it was announced
that Japan had surrendered. As the nation celebrated and hugged
strangers and loved ones, Mrs. Wilson was able to hug and celebrate
with her two favorite movie stars.
Mrs. Wilson was active in Laguna Beach Ebell for more than 50
years, attending regularly until 2001. She was also active in the
Aliso and Thurston PTAs.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughters Karen Wilson Turnbull, of
Laguna, and Marilee Wilson Traxler, of La Mesa; sons Damon and Blake
Patterson, of Solana Beach; and brothers Thomas Kleppe, of Bethesda,
M.D. and Jack Kleppe, of Apple Valley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to
Laguna Beach Ebell Scholarship Fund c/o Karen Baker, 30892 Rivera
Place, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677.
