Reyes earns berth on 2005 World Tour

Huntington Beach’s Timmy Reyes, a rider for O’Neill, has secured a

berth on the 2005 World Championship Tour.

Reyes is Surf City’s first representative on professional

surfing’s grand prix since 1996, WCT officials said.

The 22-year-old joins teammates Floridian Cory Lopez on the men’s

circuit and Hawaiians Rochelle Ballard and Melanie Bartels, competing

on the women’s tour.

Reyes, a former National Scholastic Surfing Assn. star and

graduate of Sowers Middle School and Edison High, secured his spot

on the tour during the recent O’Neill World Cup of Surfing on Oahu’s

famed North shore, the second leg of the prestigious Vans Triple

Crown of Surfing.

The WCT is comprised of the world’s top 45 surfers and holds 10 to

12 contests annually at prime wave locations around the world. It is

the circuit that determines the Assn. of Surfing Professionals world

champion.

The top 27 WCT surfers in the final rankings automatically

re-qualify for the following year. Fifteen competitors advance from

the WQS and the remaining three slots are allocated to wildcards.
