Newport Harbor High girls volleyball senior outside hitter Kiley Hall
was named first-team All-Sea View League. Hall, who was a second team
all-league selection last year as a junior middle blocker, was also a
second-team All-CIF Southern Section Division II selection.
Second-team all-league honors went to senior setter and opposite
hitter Taryn Tarnutzer, junior middle blocker Bryana Carey and
sophomore outside hitter Coco Yokoyama.
Newport Harbor finished 15-13 and advanced to the semifinals of
the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs.
The Sailors, second in the Sea View League behind Woodbridge,
upset No. 2-seed El Dorado in the quarterfinals of the CIF playoffs
and beat Victor Valley in the second round after sweeping San
Gorgonio in the first round.
Hall was the undisputed leader of the club. The captain led the
team with 12 kills in the semifinal game against Edison and 19 kills
against El Dorado. She also chimed in with 16 kills against Victor
Valley.
Tarnutzer provided valuable senior leadership for the Sailors. She
slammed eight kills and added 14 assists in the Victor Valley match.
She proved to be an all-around threat, as she registered four kills,
three blocks and 18 assists in the regular season-finale against
Woodbridge.
Carey was instrumental in getting the Sailors into the
quarterfinals of the playoffs. Her six service aces and 11 kills
against Victor Valley proved to be the difference in the match.
Yokoyama was reliable all season. She provided clutch serving in
the Sea View League-opener against Foothill for a Newport
come-from-behind victory and routinely finished matches with
double-digit kills.
