Stylish store houses home furnishings
GREER WYLDER
The most stylish home furnishings store to open in Newport in years,
d. kruse, debuted last month in the Lido Village area. Co-owners Dee
and Randy Kruse have fashioned their store as a place to find fresh
looks to enhance stodgy interiors. Before opening d. kruse, the
couple operated a local upscale design house for nine years, creating
d. kruse furniture and accessories and offering interior-design
service.
“So many of our clients say they’re just plain tired of
traditional interiors,” Randy Kruse said. “And at the same time they
don’t want to give up their family heirlooms.”
At d. kruse you can find designs that help “bridge the gap”
between stark, modern and warm, homey furnishings. There isn’t a
store like this in town. Its uniqueness comes from the Kruses’ talent
for bringing together flattering combinations of modern and vintage
pieces. The store features a chocolate-brown sofa vignette, a bed
scenario with night stand, bed linens, Jaliska glass pieces and
exclusive ceramics. Fine materials and exquisite detailing are the
common denominator in all products, whether it’s their own d. kruse
line of furniture, vintage Christofle silver, wonderful spine lights
from Brickett Davda in London or Paul Smith ceramics. They also carry
George Smith, a high-end furniture line from England, that’s expertly
crafted and worth every penny. George Smith, known for its
conservative, traditional line of sofas, is also adding hipper
designs like its new chaise lounge.
d.kruse will constantly update merchandise. “Our goal is to be
ever changing,” Kruse said. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to
Saturday. 3412 Via Lido in Newport Beach. (949) 673-1302.
