Christmas Can Begin

When a hush descends on the village,

When the nighttime calms the din,

When the animals are quiet

Christmas can begin.

When starlight is fixed in the heavens,

When the trav’lers settle in,

When the innkeeper is sleeping

Christmas can begin.

When shepherds keep watch on the hillside,

When earth is in winter spin,

When the angel choir is forming

Christmas can begin.

When prophets are heard from a distance,

When hope seems to be so thin,

When the highway has been leveled

Christmas can begin.

When a baby is laid in a manger,

When the human race is kin,

When the Holy Light is beaming

Christmas can begin.

When the human heart is open,

When we feel God’s love within,

When the promised peace is dawning,

Christmas can begin.
