All-league honorees
Three standouts from Costa Mesa High and one from Estancia have been
named first-team All-Golden West League by the circuit’s girls
volleyball coaches.
Seniors Jackie Havens and Lindsey Navarette, as well as junior
Tracy Bjelland, represent the Mustangs on the first team.
Estancia’s first-team honoree is senior Hillary Larson.
Senior Vera Gale and sophomore Danielle Morton, both from Costa
Mesa, as well as Estancia sophomores Jaye Hellmich and Stacie Watson
are second-team selections.
Havens, a four-year varsity performer, is a repeat first-team
honoree. The Mustangs’ setter who earned Newport-Mesa Dream Team
laurels as a junior, was second-team all-league as a sophomore.
Larson, an outside hitter, is also a repeat first-team pick, while
Navarette, also an outside hitter, was a second-team performer in
2003.
Bjelland, an outside hitter, helped Mesa finish third in league
and advance to the CIF Southern Section Division III-A playoffs.
The Mustangs were defeated by Nordhoff in the first round and
finished 9-6.
Watson, a setter, helped Estancia finish 8-9 this fall. She earned
second-team honors last season, as well.
Hellmich was a middle blocker for the Eagles, while Gale and
Morton played the same position for Costa Mesa.
Hayley Hanson, a junior setter from Ocean View, and Daniela Sosa,
a senior outside hitter from Santa Ana, shared league MVP honors.
