Student hit by car while crossing street

A ninth-grade student at Marina High School was hit by a car

Wednesday while she was crossing the street Wednesday on Edinger

Avenue, near the intersection of Springdale Street.

Police said the car that hit the girl was heading west as the girl

crossed the street. The car was a green Toyota Camry driven by Maria

Elva Sifuentes, 57, of Cerritos. Police said they do not know what

speed the car was traveling, nor did they know if the girl was in the

crosswalk or not.

The girl was taken to Long Beach Memorial hospital with head

injuries and was listed in serious condition, Bunetta said.

Her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, as of today,

Bunetta said.

Police said they are still investigating the accident, and no

citations were issued.
