Seahawks open own tourney with win

Ocean View High’s boys’ basketball opened its own Tournament of
Champions on Monday with a 74-59 victory over Laguna Hills in the
first game of a six-day tournament.
The Seahawks, who returned Sunday from a season-opening tournament
in Texas, got 21 points from forward/center Clint Amberry and 15 more
from guard John Greiner in defeating Laguna Hills.
Ocean View was 2-2 coming into the Tournament of Champions and its
most recent victory was a thrilling -- and draining -- triple
overtime victory over Carroll of San Antonio in its final Lone Star
Invitational game Saturday.
“I thought the team played great,” Ocean View Co-Coach Jimmy
Harris said of Monday’s win. “Our feeling was that with all this
traveling and playing a triple overtime game, we might be a bit flat
against Laguna Hills. But, everyone was still on cloud nine from that
overtime win.”
Joining Ocean View in the winner’s circle during Monday’s pool
play action was Calabasas, Etiwanda and J. Serra.
Pool A consists of Calabasas, Clovis West and Fontana; Pool B is
composed of J. Serra, Laguna Hills, Muir and Ocean View; playing in
Pool C is Bishop Alemany, Etiwanda, Laurinburg and Long Beach Poly.
The tournament continues today and Friday and concludes with
consolation and championship round action Saturday.
