Arrests made in DUI saturation patrol
On Nov. 23 the Laguna Beach Police Department, with the help of
funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety, conducted a
saturation patrol to catch people driving under the influence.
Five extra officers patrolled the streets of Laguna Beach between
8 p.m. and 2 a.m. and arrested four people for drunken driving and
one person for possession of dangerous drugs.
The police department plans to perform more saturation patrols, as
well as DUI checkpoints, in the future.
Residents sought for police academy
The Laguna Beach Police Department is accepting applications for
the Citizen Academy, a 12-week course designed to help the community
gain a better understanding of law enforcement.
The course will begin Jan. 12, and will meet Wednesday nights from
6 to 9 p.m. Applications will be accepted until Jan. 5.
Participants will learn more about police department operations,
such as crime prevention, crime scene investigation and traffic
enforcement. Academy members will also be given the chance to shoot
at the police firing range and tour the Orange County Jail.
