The future of UC Irvine men’s basketball is noticeably brighter after
the school announced Thursday that four players have signed national
letters of intent to continue their careers with the Anteaters,
beginning in 2005-06.
Alvin Lewis, who averaged 32 points and eight assists at Madison
Park High last season in Boston, Mass., is a 6-foot point guard who
will play this season at Northfield Mount Hermon Prep in Northfield,
Mass.
Adam Templeton, a 6-5 wing from Central High in Rapid City, S.D.,
averaged 22 points, nine rebounds and three assists as a junior last
season.
Mark Kelley, a 6-9 post, was averaging 29 points through four
games for Citrus Community College as a sophomore this season.
Mike Green, a 6-1 guard, averaged 19.4 points as a freshman at
Cuesta Community College last season. He is sitting out this season
and will have three years of eligibility at UCI.
“[Templeton] is one of the more versatile players, offensively and
defensively, that we have signed the past few years,” said UCI Coach
Pat Douglass, who described his potential as “off the charts.”
UCI, which followed three straight 20-win seasons with an 11-17
campaign last season, enters tonight’s season opener with four
returning players and just one senior on its 11-man roster.
