County anticipates blood shortage
Orange County Blood Services is anticipating a blood shortage with
the flu season drawing in. With more people ineligible to donate
because of the flu symptoms, officials are requesting healthy people
to donate blood immediately.
People who are at least 17, in good health and weighing at least
110 pounds may be eligible to donate. Plenty of fluids and a good
meal are recommended before donating.
The region has less than a day’s supply of O-positive and
O-negative blood.
To schedule a blood drive or to make an appointment, call Orange
County Blood Services at (949) 724-1399 or visit
www.ocbloodservices.org.
Development services specialist promoted
Mike Robinson has been promoted to assistant development services
director for the city of Costa Mesa.
Robinson replaces Perry Valantine, who retired Nov. 8. He is also
taking over Valantine’s duty as zoning administrator.
Robinson was formerly the planning and development manager. He was
promoted by Don Lamm, the city’s director of development services.
Robinson has been with the city for 31 years, has a master’s
degree in urban planning and filled in for Valantine whenever he was
out of the office, Lamm said. Lamm will share Robinson’s
redevelopment responsibilities with Hilda Veturis, who handles the
day-to-day dealings of the redevelopment agency.
Lamm also promoted two other planning staff members to the
position of principal planner. Willa Bouwens-Killeen will be in
charge of the development process, and Kimberly Brandt will handle
the city’s general plan and other long-range planning issues.
