The Laguna Beach American Legion Post 222 will present the seventh
annual United Service Organization Show on Sunday, complete with
dress and dance from decades gone.
The event will be a USO-style show, complete with the star
spangled banner and music for the afternoon, said Richard Moore,
commander of American Legion Post 222. Hamburgers, hot dogs and soft
drinks will be offered along with raffle prizes and live dance music
from the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s performed by Pete Jacobs and the Wartime
Radio Revue.
The event usually draws a crowd of about 100 people, Moore said.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1940s clothing or in military
uniforms -- there will be prizes for the best dressed in both
military and civilian categories.
The show is open to the public. A $10 donation is requested for
adults; $5 donations for children under 12. Proceeds from the event
will be donated to American Legion-supported charities, such as
Veteran’s Hospitals and Boys and Girls State.
“There’s all kinds of activities we get involved with, several
dozen, each year,” said Moore.
The show will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Veterans
Memorial Community Center, 384 Legion St.
Citizens or local merchants can contribute donations of food or
supplies and gifts for raffle prizes. For information, call (949)
