Edison, Marina earn top 10 finishes

Two local schools earned top 10 finishes at the prestigious Mount San

Antonio College Cross Country Invitational.

Edison’s girls, with 242 points, finished 10 in the Team

Sweepstakes division.

In the boys’ Individual Sweepstakes division, Edison scored 196

points and Marina had 197 as the schools finished fifth and seventh,

respectively.

The invitational traditionally is one of the top cross country

events in the nation.

In boys’ water polo, Huntington Beach routed Fountain Valley,

15-6, at Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos.

Andrew Kreitz led all scorers with four goals and Robert Pusic,

Bill Meripol and Robert Riker each scored three goals.

Josh Grillo finished with 14 saves.

Also at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos posted a 16-7 win

over Edison.

Ben Sonne led the Chargers with five goals.

In girls’ tennis, Huntington Beach scored a pair of 17-1 Sunset

League victories over Esperanza and Marina.

Against Esperanza, Oiler singles players Lauren Pascoe, Jennifer

Heumann and Monica Stupaczuk and doubles teams Amy Kaufman and Stacy

Kaufman and Elaine Nguyen and Kelly Wong earned sweeps.

Against Marina, Heumann, Stupaczuk and Kinsey Wood -- all freshman

-- earned sweeps.

Wood played at No. 1 singles.

The two, one-sided wins upped Huntington’s Sunset League mark to

11-2.

In girls’ volleyball, Huntington Beach swept rival Marina, 25-17,

25-20, 25-13, and Edison swept rival Fountain Valley, 25-18, 25-16,

25-16, in a pair of Sunset League showdowns.

Ocean View upped its Golden West League-leading record to 8-0 with

a 25-24, 25-18, 25-16 home triumph over Estancia.

The Seahawks are now 11-1 overall.

In girls’ golf, Lindsay Kerrohan earned medalist honors with a 46

to lead Ocean View in a 262-311 Golden West League victory over Costa

Mesa at Costa Mesa Country Club.

The win improved the Seahawks’ record to 4-8.

Jennifer Osborn medaled with a 38, but Marina, which had a player

disqualified for a rules violation, was edged by Los Alamitos,

235-239, in a Sunset League match at Meadowlark Golf Course.
