Background search not such a bad thing

I’m confused by your continued editorial harping on “personal

attacks” being made on the promoter of the Marinapark resort hotel,

Stephen Sutherland.

The questions I’ve heard people raise don’t sound personal at all.

They seem to relate to his background and qualifications to do what

he says he wants to do. Apparently, the city didn’t think it

necessary to ask these questions before officials decided to do

business with him. Shouldn’t somebody be concerned with his

education, experience, track record and similar matters? Shouldn’t

this be taken care of before agreements are signed?

Article missed point of silly lawsuits

You had the chance but missed it in your article heading, “City to

pay for lawyers,” Oct. 22. How I wish that not only your article but

hundreds of others that deal with the state or cities paying for

frivolous payments that should be paid by the instigators, etc., like

the Greenlight Steering Committee read: “Citizens to pay for

lawyers.” Now this really would catch a lot more attention and get a

greater uproar over these absurd payments that you and I are stuck

with as taxpayers.
