Bar to celebrate 30 years in business

Muldoon’s Dublin Pub & Celtic Bar will kick off its 30th

anniversary celebration beginning at around 1 p.m. today at

Muldoon’s, at 202 Newport Center Drive in Newport Beach.

The event features trivia contests with prizes and Irish rock band

the Fenians will play at 2 p.m. Muldoon’s offers an extensive

selection of wines, beers and Irish whiskeys, as well as fish and

chips, burgers and Irish stew.

‘Great Pumpkin’

The merchants of the Balboa Village will host a Halloween event

from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 31 at the public parking lot on the

corner of Balboa Boulevard and Palm Street, in Newport Beach.

The event, titled “Balboa’s Great Pumpkin,” will feature live

entertainment, raffle prizes, a pumpkin coloring contest, a costume

contest and free photos for kids with “The Great Pumpkin.”

The event has been organized by the Balboa Village Business

Improvement District and is free and open to the public.

City of Costa Mesa receives honor

The Purchasing Division of the City of Costa Mesa was recently

awarded the 2004 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award for

the fourth consecutive time since 1996.

This national award recognizes organizational and operational

excellence by government and nonprofit agencies in public and

nonprofit procurement. The award is presented to organizations who

demonstrate excellence by obtaining a high score on a rating of

standardized criteria. The criteria are designed to measure

professionalism, procurement, innovation, productivity and leadership

attributes of the procurement organization.

Costa Mesa is one of 45 cities, and 69 other governmental and

nonprofit agencies from the United States and Canada, to receive the

award.

The California Assn. of Public Purchasing Officers, the Institute

for Supply Management, the National Institute of Governmental

Purchasing and the National Purchasing Institute sponsors the award

program.
