Parker heads former UCI trio
Perry Parker leads a trio of UC Irvine alumni after the first two
days of competition in the first stage of PGA Tour qualifying school
at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta.
Parker shot an even-par 72 Wednesday and sits in a six-way tie for
10th place after two rounds (74-72 -- 146).
Mike Lavery, a 2003 UCI graduate who won the Big West Conference
individual title as a senior, is in a three-way tie for 16th (67-80
-- 147) with two rounds remaining in the stage. Lavery led the field
after his 67 Tuesday.
The top 23 finishers and ties following four rounds qualify for
the second stage of qualifying school. Former Anteater Jeff Coburn
(76-83 -- 159) sits in a tie for 69th.
CdM battles through 5
* VOLLEYBALL: The Corona del Mar girls volleyball team defeated
host Tesoro, 25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12 Wednesday in a Pacific
Coast League match.
Lindsey Ensign racked up 25 kills for the Sea Kings (18-4, 6-0 in
league), while Jordan Smith had 19 kills and 27 digs.
Brianne Ogden had 17 digs and Kelly Christian had 23 assists to
help keep CdM perfect in league.

* WATER POLO: The Orange Coast College mens water polo team
defeated Santa Ana 11-9 Wednesday afternoon in an Orange Empire
Conference match.
Alex Avetoom scored four goals to lead the Pirates (4-10, 1-3 in
conference), while Jonathon Goldstein and Andrew Crowell both had
two.
Christian Tapia led Santa Ana (5-5, 1-4) with four goals.
