ON THE AGENDA

Here are some of the items the Huntington Beach City Council will

consider at its next meeting:

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The City Council will consider a zoning text amendment that would

require developers to include affordable housing when constructing

residential projects that include three or more units.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The affordable housing policy has been in place unofficially for

several years, but recently Councilwoman Connie Boardman discovered

that there was no official language requiring developers to include

affordable housing in their residential projects. This amendment

would codify that requirement into law.

FATS, OIL AND GREASE

The City Council will consider enacting a special fee for

restaurants and food service establishments that discharge fats, oils

and grease into the city’s sewer system. The substances can block

sewer lines over time and cause overflows.

The program is designed to collect fees to pay for a system to

clean up greasy substances and educate business owners about what

they dump into the sewers.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Passage of this fee schedule seems likely since it is being

mandated by the state. A study detailing the reasons and methodology

for the fee will be available for review in the City Clerk’s office

beginning today.
