Former assistant sheriff surrenders
Former Orange County Assistant Sheriff George Jaramillo pleaded
not guilty Wednesday to charges he misused public funds.
Jaramillo and his sister-in-law, Erica Hill, surrendered to
officials at the Orange County Jail on Wednesday. He faces six felony
counts of misappropriation of public money and four misdemeanor
counts of conflict of interest.
Hill pleaded not guilty to three counts of misappropriation of
public funds.
Jaramillo was fired from his post earlier this year after a grand
jury investigation focused on allegations that he tried to protect
19-year-old Greg Haidl in his gang-rape trial and other minor run-ins
with the law.
Haidl’s father, Don Haidl, retired from his volunteer assistant
sheriff position on Friday.
Man exposes himself in public from car
A man driving his car on Victoria Street in Costa Mesa allegedly
exposed himself to a woman walking on the sidewalk, police said.
The 33-year-old woman was walking on the south sidewalk along
Victoria Street at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when a man drove a
burgundy, four-door Nissan past her several times, Costa Mesa Police
Sgt. Marty Carver said. The man made comments to attract the woman’s
attention, and when she turned to look, he exposed himself, Carver
said.
The woman kept walking and the man drove away, Carver said.
