Austin coming to UCI

Tennis legend Tracy Austin has committed to join a star-studded

lineup that includes Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Anna Kournikova

for the 12th annual World Team Tennis All-Star Smash Hits, scheduled

Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.

Austin has won 30 career singles titles including two U. S. Open

crowns. At age 16, she became the youngest player to win the U.S.

Open in 1979. Two years later, she captured her second U.S. Open

championship with a memorable win over Martina Navratilova.

Austin was also part of the first brother/sister team to win a

Wimbledon mixed doubles title when she and brother John won in 1980.

At 29, she became the youngest inductee into the International

Tennis Hall of Fame in 1992.

A resident of Rolling Hills, Austin is a tennis analyst for USA

Network and Fox Sports and has done work for NBC and ABC.

Also added to the lineup are Brad Gilbert, coach of Roddick, and

Darren Cahill, coach of Agassi.

Elton John and Billie Jean King are scheduled to host the evening

of tennis, proceeds from which will benefit the Elton John AIDS

Foundation and the National AIDS Fund.

Tickets range from $40 to $105 and are available at all

Ticketmaster outlets, as well as the Bren Center box office.

Jenkins places second

* SURFING: Corona del Mar resident T.J. Jenkins finished second in

the men’s college division (ages 19 and older) at the Op Newport

Classic surf contest completed Sunday at 56th Street in Newport

Beach.
