Tars running at solid pace

The Newport Harbor High boys and girls cross country teams competed
in their second races Sept. 18. The boys finished 61st out of 160
teams at the Woodbridge invitational, the largest high school cross
country race in Southern California.
The placement is determined by the combined time of the top-five
finishers. The Sailors finished in 1 hour, 23 minutes and 29 seconds.
Murrieta Valley, who was first, finished in 1:16:44. Foothill, the
defending Sea View League champion, finished in 1:22:42.
Nick St. Andre was 10th in the senior race, finishing in 15
minutes, 51 seconds. Kenny Rakestraw (16:03) was seventh in the
junior race. Rounding out the top five for Newport were seniors
Martin Bernard (16:49) and Cameron MacLaren (17:20) and junior
Wessley Urtusuastegy (17:26).
The girls finished 10th in the sweepstakes race. Junior Whitney
Blue (17:41) finished 10th overall to pace the Sailors. The other top
finishers were sophomores Lauren Maddox (18:17), Lily Dierkes
(19:53), Zuzana Bernard (19:57) and Taylor Bryson (20:03).
