Needle found in cookie packages
Packages of Keebler cookies were removed from the shelves of a
Costa Mesa Albertsons after a store clerk found a sewing needle
sticking out of one package.
The clerk at the 2300 Harbor Blvd. grocery store was stuck with
the needle while scanning the cookies Sunday evening, Costa Mesa
Police Sgt. Marty Carver said. The clerk was not injured, police
said.
The store manager removed all of the other packages from store
shelves and contacted a Keebler representative, Carver said.
No other packages appeared to be tampered with, he said.

Officers place at SWAT competition
Two members of the Costa Mesa Police SWAT team captured third
place Monday in an event that tested the marksmanship skills of SWAT
officers from several law enforcement departments’ teams.
Eric Wisener and Brent McKinley placed third in the sniper
competition at the 10th annual Ventura Police SWAT Competition. In
the overall competition, the team placed seventh among 11 teams.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team won the
competition.
This was the first year Costa Mesa competed.
