Sea Kings pull rank on Troy

Corona del Mar High sophomore Jill Damion swept at No. 1 singles to
lead the Sea Kings to a crucial 12-6 nonleague girls tennis win at
Troy Thursday.
“They are ranked No. 1 in Orange County and we’re No. 2, so this
is a big win,” CdM Coach Brian Ricker said.
CdM’s No. 2 doubles team of Alexandra Walters and Miranda Young
also swept, while Ricker credited No. 2 singles player Jillian
Braverman for defeating two quality opponents.
CdM improved to 3-1, while Troy, which, like CdM has lost to
Peninsula, is now 1-2.

Sailors best Sea Kings
* GOLF: Newport Harbor High junior Natalie Draganza shot
3-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors, but Corona del Mar earned a
223-239 nonleague win in the Back Bay girls golf rivalry played
Thursday at Newport Beach Country Club.
Katie Albright, Katie McKittrick and Caitlin McDonald all shot 44
for CdM (2-0), while Jonna Kim (45) and Michelle Drucker (46) also
contributed to the victory.
Kayleigh Horn (40), Iko Kagasoff (53), Kendall Horn (54) and
Ashley Jacobs (54) rounded out the Sailors’ scorers.
The two teams renew the rivalry Oct. 27 at the Santa Ana Country
Club.
Gleason leads Eagles
* GOLF: Estancia High sophomore Bridget Gleason shot 3-over-par 37
to earn medalist honors and help the Eagles defeat Westminster,
225-339, in a Golden West League girls golf match Thursday at Costa
Mesa Golf & Country Club.
Gleason led five Eagles with the top five individual scores on the
Mesa Linda course. Lina You (44), Josie Flores (47), Avery Williams
(48) and Taylor West (49) also contributed to what Coach Art Perry
said may be the program’s lowest team score ever.
Estancia improved to 2-1, 2-0 in league.
Eagles top Seahawks
* TENNIS: Yvonne Zaidler won 18 of 19 singles games and Estancia
High teammate Heather Morton also swept in singles as the Eagles
defeated Golden West League girls tennis visitor Ocean View, 13-5,
Thursday.
Sage O’Toole and Cathy Pittman swept in doubles for Estancia.

Lightning pulls away
* WATER POLO: Sage Hill School broke a 1-1 tie with the only two
goals of the second period and pulled away for a 10-5 nonleague boys
water polo win over visiting Estancia Thursday at Corona del Mar
High.
John Neff and Jordan Cline had three goals apiece for the
Lightning.
Chad Kunert and Sean Goodman led Estancia (1-1) with two goals
apiece.
