Man arrested after alleged rock assault
A 21-year-old homeless woman suffered minor injuries after her
boyfriend assaulted her with a rock Thursday morning in a brush area
off of the San Diego Freeway, near Bristol Street, Costa Mesa Police
officials said.
Police arrested 34-year-old Robert William Odom, also a transient,
on suspicion of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon,
Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver said.
Witnesses called police after they saw Odom assaulting the woman,
who remained unidentified because she is a victim of a violent crime,
Carver said. At one point during the struggle, Odom picked up a rock
and hit his girlfriend with it, he said.
The two had been dating for about three months, Carver said.
Odom is being held in Costa Mesa jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. The
woman was taken to Hoag Hospital, where she was treated for abdominal
pain, scratches and cuts, Carver said.
