Sawdust wins top honors
Just in time for the end of the season, the Sawdust Art Festival
has been honored as one of the top three festivals in the country by
“AmericanStyle” magazine readers, and was voted the best art festival
in the West.
The national magazine focuses on the studio art and visual arts
lifestyle.
This was the first year the magazine conducted the readers poll to
choose the top 25 art fairs and festivals. The 45-year-old Ann Arbor
Street Art Fair won first and Houston’s Bayou City Art Festival was
second.
The Sawdust’s 38th season will end Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10
p.m. daily. Tickets are $6.50 for adults, $5.50 for seniors and $2
for children 6 to 12. Admission includes free art workshops. The
Sawdust is at 935 Laguna Canyon Road. For information: (949)
494-3030.

LAM seeking artists and designers
Laguna Art Museum is seeking Orange County artists and designers
working in all media for “The OsCene in Contemporary Art and
Culture,” exhibit that will show Nov. 7 through February.
It will be a survey exhibition of Orange County artists working in
all media, including: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography,
multi-media installations, video/film, sound/music, architecture and
design. It’s also open to gaming technology, tattoo artists and bike
and skateboard graphics. Work produced within the last two years is
sought.
Send a resume, artist statement and materials in the format that
best presents the work. Also enclose a self-addressed stamped
envelope with enough postage for the return of materials. Do not send
originals.
Studio visits will be scheduled from August to early October. Send
materials to: Curatorial Department, the OsCene, Laguna Art Museum,
307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach, CA 92651.
‘Late Nite Catechism’ still going
As a result of continued popular demand, the Laguna Playhouse will
extend its run of “Late Nite Catechism” for a ninth time, continuing
through Oct. 21.
The two-act solo performance features “Sister” giving instruction
to a roomful of students -- the audience. Throughout the course of
the class, the benevolent instructor rewards the “students” for
correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and other nifty
prizes. Naughty students may well find themselves on stage sitting in
a corner reflecting upon their actions. For information or to
purchase tickets, call (949) 497-2787 or online at
https://www.lagunaplayhouse
.com. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $35. The
playhouse is at 606 Laguna Canyon Road.
