Louie to represent country
Judy Louie, a Corona del Mar resident who is ranked No. 1 in the
United States Tennis Association women’s 55 doubles division -- along
with partner Kathleen Bennett of Costa Mesa -- will compete for the
United States in the Maureen Connolly Cup, a prestigious
international tennis competition, held in Philadelphia next month.
Louie, who claimed the national 55 hard court singles crown in
2001, will join teammates Anne Guerrant (Gilbert, Ariz.), Trish
Faulkner (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and Brenda Carter (Charleston,
S.C.), in competition at the International Tennis Federation’s Senior
Team World Championships at the Germantown Cricket Club Sept. 12-18.
Louie, currently ranked sixth in the USTA women’s 55 singles
standings, played on the winning Connolly Cup team in 2001 in Perth,
Australia, and has also competed for squads in the Young and Bueno
cup championships.
She also claimed back-to-back doubles titles in the national 55
clay and hard court tournaments in 2002 and 2003.
Last year’s U.S. Connolly Cup team took the gold medal following a
victory over Germany.
