Towersey tied for fifth
Newport Beach resident Marianne Towersey sits in a four-way tie for
fifth place after the first two rounds of the 47th North and South
Senior Women’s Championship at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.
Towersey shot a 3-over-par 75 on Pinehurst’s Course No. 8
Wednesday to go with her 5-over 77 on Course No. 4 Tuesday. She sits
at 152 with Shirley Budden from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., (79-73),
Mary Wannamaker from Charlotte, N.C., (75-77) and Elaine Mozingo
Johnson from Hartsville, S.C. (74-78).
Nancy Smith (69-70 -- 139) from North Port, Fla., leads the field
of 52 players while Chris Epperly from Lady Lake, Fla., sits eight
shots back (75-72 -- 147).
Newport Beach resident Madelaine Campbell (83-81 -- 164) enters today’s final round in a three-way tie for 16th place.
Golfers will play Course No. 5 today. Towersey, who finished in
third in last year’s championship, will tee off at 9:18 a.m. eastern
time with Budden and Karen Ferree from Hilton Head, S.C., while
Campbell will start at 8:42 with Eleanor Walker and Peggy
Flynn-Cooke, both from Greensboro, N.C.
