Man dies after hit crossing Fairview
A 40-year-old Corona man died of head injuries Saturday night
after he darted across a Costa Mesa street and was hit by a passing
vehicle, police said.
Brian Landis was crossing Fairview Road near Merrimac Street at
about 11:45 p.m., when Jayson Aguilar, 28, of Bellflower, who was
driving southbound on Fairview, hit Landis, Costa Mesa Police Sgt.
Bob Ciszek said.
Landis was not crossing on a marked crosswalk, he said.
“The driver was not found to be at fault and was not charged or
cited,” Ciszek said.
Alcohol does not seem to be involved in the incident, he said.
Landis was taken to Hoag Hospital Presbyterian, where he was
pronounced dead, Ciszek said.
