Kris Hartwell, who helped lead Estancia High to the CIF Southern
Section Division III boys volleyball championship last spring, will
continue his career at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colo.
Hartwell, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter who earned first-team All-CIF
Division III honors, plans to major in business at JWU, home of the
Wildcats, who compete in the NAIA.
Hartwell was named Co-Golden West League Player of the Year,
sharing the award with teammate Josh Kornegay. Hartwell, who helped
guide the Eagles to 12 straight league victories and the program’s
first league crown since 1984, led Estancia in kills (314) and aces
(85). He was second on the team in digs (188) and third in blocks
(31).
Hartwell was also honored as the Newport-Mesa Dream Team Co-Player
of the Year, along with Kornegay.
