Golden West second at national water polo tournament

The Golden West Water Polo team placed second in the elite 20-Under
Women’s Water Polo Tournament held last weekend in Atherton.
The 20-Under national tournament brought together some of the top
women’s water polo teams in the country.
Golden West’s impressive drive to the championship finals included
six victories.
The group of high school-aged athletes dominated in bracket play
with wins over Chino Hills Area, 7-5, Sunset Water Polo, 16-5 and
Trabuco Hills, 10-1.
Golden West advanced to the “Final Four” with wins over San Jose
Splash, 11-3 and Stanford Water Polo, 9-0.
In the semifinal round, Golden West defeated a strong Golden Bear
team, 8-5, to earn a berth in the championship final.
San Diego Shore won the title by defeating Golden West, 7-4.
The loss snapped Golden West’s impressive 18-game win streak.
Golden West is a women’s water polo team based out of Huntington
Beach. Team members represent high schools from throughout Orange,
Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
The team currently is in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., competing at the
18-Under National Junior Olympics.
The Junior Olympics began Wednesday and continues through Sunday.

1. San Diego Shores; 2. Golden West; 3. Golden Bear; 4. Stanford; 5.
Chino Hills Area; 6. Newport; 7. American River; 8. San Jose Splash;
9. Trabuco Hills; 10. NorCal.
