and Tivoli Terrace
Big thanks go to the board of the Festival of Arts and June
Neptune of Tivoli Terrace restaurant for providing a wonderful
evening for more than 80 veterans on July 12.
Every year the Laguna Beach American Legion Post invites
hospitalized veterans from several different hospitals and homes as
far away as Barstow to attend the famous Pageant of the Masters and
have dinner at Tivoli Terrace. Our fellow veterans never fail to be
amazed and appreciative of this special Laguna Beach hospitality.
Thanks so much.

Change doesn’t have to ruin Pottery Shack
On July 6, I watched with despair as the City Council approved 3
to 2 the renovation of the now-deceased Pottery Shack.
Regardless that a number of locals offered sound reasoning as to
why the project should not be approved without adequate parking, it
was approved.
Now we are faced with a retrofitted Disney-esque facade, glutted
with market umbrellas where there once was pottery. It will be a
make-believe pottery shack that may not even be called the Pottery
Shack without the essence of what was once called the Pottery Shack.
One of the council members suggested a study be made on the
parking problem. There is no doubt in my mind that if such a study is
made, one of the first facts to be recommended will be “no new
construction to be approved unless there is adequate parking.”
It has also been stated that if the project was not approved, a
monstrosity would appear in its place. Does anyone believe our Design
Review Board would approve such a project?
A block away is Haster Grove, where Pete’s Laguna Nursery used to
be. This property was elegantly restored without the loss of one
parking space. It can be done.
