Festival to hold licensing meeting

A special meeting of the voting membership of the Festival of Arts
will be held to begin the process of amending the festival’s by-laws
to prohibit the licensing or franchising of the Pageant of the
Masters outside of Laguna Beach.
The festival notified nearly 4,000 Orange County members, and
those attending are slated to cast votes on whether the festival’s
board of directors will canvass the voting membership by mail on the
proposed by-law.
The results of the mail-in votes would be announced at the first
board meeting after the votes are tallied. The meeting will be at
12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna
Canyon Road.
Councilwoman will talk on ACT V issue
Councilwoman Elizabeth Pearson will be the guest speaker at the
monthly meeting of the Laguna Beach Republican Club, set for 7 p.m.
Wednesday at Hennessey’s on Ocean Avenue.
Pearson will review the history and status of the relocation of
the city maintenance yard to the ACT V parking lot in Laguna Canyon,
favored by 3-2 majority of the council.
Plans for the election campaign and a party in the last week of
October will be discussed.
All Republicans are welcome.
Democratic Club to host wine-tasting
The Laguna Beach Democratic Club will host a wine tasting from 4
to 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at Stalker Gardens, 2285 Temple Hills Drive, to
support the Kerry/Edwards slate.
Wine professionals will provide wine and their expertise for the
event. Stalker’s Fine Foods will supply hors d’oeuvres.
Suggested donation is $50 in advance, $55 at the door. Make
reservations by e-mailing [email protected]. All donations will
be collected at the door and contributed to MoveOn.org.

Women voters to hold mini-forums
The League of Women Voters will hold mini-forums as part of the
league’s Election Fair from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at Laguna Beach
High School.
Candidates must pay $50 to participate.
Red Cross and lifeguards hold drive
The Red Cross and Laguna Beach lifeguards will hold a blood drive
to meet the needs of a critical blood shortage. Supplies of Type-O
positive and Type-O negative blood are both very low, with less than
one day’s worth of blood on stock.
Donations may be made between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Bloodmobile
will be at the corner of South Coast Highway and Ocean Avenue. To
