Thunder beats Avalanche in title showdown
The Thunder laid claim to the Lemieux Division championship by edging
the Avalanche, 4-3, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in
Huntington Beach.
Sam Robinson posted three goals to lead all scorers and Matt Braun
also scored for the Thunder. Robinson, Travis Murray and Jeffrey
Kurokawa each had an assist. Brandon Rodriguez recorded 18 saves for
the Thunder.
Brett Martin’s two goals and assist paced the Avalanche. Mats
Degerstedt scored the other Avalanche goal, and Jaryd Mason had 20
saves.
In other title games:
Patrick Division
Chiefs 5, Roadrunners 4
Cameron Monahan scored unassisted in an overtime shootout to lift
the Chiefs past the Roadrunners. It was the third goal of the match
for Monahan.
Kevin Ewing and Michael Charlesworth each scored a goal for the
Chiefs. Nicholas Estrada and Ali Plummer each had an assist and Rory
Folsom posted 33 saves in the victory.
Christopher Romero scored two goals to lead the Roadrunners.
Michael Iacono had a goal and an assist, David Daley scored a goal
and Matthew Iacono and Jordan Beideman each had an assist.
Brett Martin had 26 saves for the Roadrunners.
Campbell Division
Mighty Ducks 4, Wings 1
Trevor Scott and Paul Studer each scored two goals to account for
the Mighty Ducks’ scoring. Christopher Kao had an assist, and Chas
Scott finished with 28 saves to get the win.
Ryan Piscotty scored unassisted, and Emmett Jaeger had 23 saves
for the Wings.
Mite Club Division
OCB 94 10, HB Vipers 6
OCB 94 took a six-goal lead after two periods, then held off a
late charge by the HB Vipers.
Kyle Martins, Kyle Merrick, Shin Yamamoto and Cody Ferrer each
scored twice and Trevor Jackson scored once for OCB 94. Merrick and
Bryce Morisako each had two assists and Martins, Casidhe Kunichika
and Cody Ferrer each had an assist.
Eric Newfield’s two goals led the HB Vipers. Dylan Miller, Garrett
Blackwell, Tyler O’Donnell and Zachary Beko scored one goal apiece.
Blackwell, Jonathan Millikan and Max Olin each had an assist for the
Vipers.
Pee Wee Club Division
Skeleton Crew 4, Eclipse 3
Mitchel Gonzales scored twice -- including the match winner in an
overtime shootout -- to lead the Skeleton Crew.
Sam Robinson had a goal and assist, Darryl Morita scored once and
Jeffrey Kurokawa and Kyle Anfang each had an assist.
Atom Club Division
Red Army 10, Avalanche 0
Brett Vanderham needed seven saves to record the shutout for the
Red Army.
Coby Downs led the Red Army’s prolific scoring attack with six
goals and a pair of assists. Jeffrey Beko scored once and had three
assists, Lauren Kilroy scored once and had two assists and Sean
Mastro and Kyle Christi each had a goal and an assist.
Jr. High Division
Jr. Griffins 9, Eagles 5
Kevin Morrison scored once and recorded six assists as the Jr.
Griffins overcame the Eagles.
Jeffrey Sabraw led all scorers with three goals and Stephen White
and John Thompson each cored twice. Justin Castagna scored once and
added two assists, and Thompson and White each had one assist.
Kenny Gibo had two goals and an assist, Mark Miller scored twice
and Troy Bosiljevac had one goal to lead the Eagles.
