Police seek help in woman’s death
Police are asking for residents’ help in discovering what happened
to a homeless woman found dead near a picnic bench at Lagenbeck Park
last week.
Police found Marlene Hall, 64, at about 3 p.m. on June 30 after
receiving a call that a woman was down in the park. She was
identified by police as a homeless woman who at one point lived in
Huntington Beach and had family in the area around the city.
Police did not release specific details about the woman’s death
and are still investigating whether Hall, who suffered traumatic
injuries, was murdered or died as a result of an accident. Police
would not describe Hall’s injuries, and autopsy results from the
Orange County Coroner’s Division are still pending.
Police are looking for anyone who may have seen Hall near the park
or the area around Magnolia Street and Garfield Avenue.
“We’re looking for any witnesses, anyone who might have known
her,” Huntington Beach Sgt. Dave Bunetta said.
Anyone with information may call Det. Steve Mack at (714)
536-5607.
Woman dies in collision Saturday
A 27-year-old Surf City woman was killed early Saturday after a
collision with a gas tanker truck.
Tricia Grandchamp was driving west along Heil Avenue at about 2:20
a.m. when she struck the truck, which was headed north along Beach
Boulevard. The impact forced the truck’s rear gas tank to overturn,
but no gasoline was spilled, police said.
Grandchamp was pronounced dead at the intersection. The name of
the truck driver was not released. The accident is still under
investigation, and so far there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol
were factors in the crash, Huntington Beach Sgt. Dave Bunetta said.
Child dies three days after falling in pool
A 3-year-old Huntington Beach girl died Sunday at Children’s
Hospital of Orange County, three days after a pool accident in
Huntington Beach, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Division.
The drowning was reported at about 3 p.m. Thursday at a
residential pool in the 8200 block of Munster Drive. She was
initially taken to Huntington Beach Hospital after paramedics could
not revive her, Huntington Beach Police Lt. Janet Perez said. There
was no evidence that pool-safety guidelines were ignored.
“There were absolutely no issues or concerns with negligence ...
it was just a tragic accident,” Perez said.
