Bicyclist dies after hitting motorboat
A 74-year-old man died from head injuries Sunday morning when his
bicycle crashed into a motorboat being towed by a car outside the
Newport Dunes Resort in Newport Beach, police said.
Lake Forest resident Ton Lee sustained massive head injuries at
about 10:35 a.m. He was taken to Hoag Hospital, where police said he
died a short time later.
The motorist towing the boat was stopped at the south curb of
Backbay Drive, west of Jamboree Road, awaiting entry into the resort.
Witnesses told police they saw Lee riding at 15 mph with his head
down when he rode into the boat’s back end.
Newport Beach Police Lt. John Klein said Monday that they’re still
investigating the accident.
