City to celebrate start
of street rehab effort
The city of Costa Mesa will host a groundbreaking ceremony to
celebrate the commencement of the 19th Street, Placentia Avenue and
Anaheim Avenue street rehabilitation project.
Construction on the $6-million project is scheduled to begin July
21 and will likely be completed within eight months. The project
includes removal and reconstruction of street pavement, damaged curbs
and gutters, driveways and sidewalks. It will also include
construction of median islands and parkway planters on 19th Street.
The ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m. July 15 at the Costa Mesa
Senior Center, 695 W. 19th Street. For more information, call Donna
Theriault at (714) 754-5024.
Monday trash to be collected as scheduled
Trash collection will follow the regular schedule Monday and will
not be delayed because of the Fourth of July holiday, city officials
said.
For questions about trash service, call the Costa Mesa Sanitary
District at (714) 754-5030.
OCC summertime enrollment jumps
Summer enrollment at Orange Coast College has increased
substantially from last year’s figures.
This year, 68.6% more students are taking classes during the
summer, according to figures released this week.
A total of 5,364 students signed up for OCC’s summer classes,
which started June 21. That compares with 3,181 students enrolled on
the same date last year.
The 2003 summer schedule was drastically reduced because of state
budget cuts. OCC is offering 183 classes -- a 58% spike -- this
summer.
The college is accepting applications for the fall semester. Fall
classes begin Aug. 30, and registration gets under way July 19.
The fall semester schedule is posted on the OCC website at
https://www.orangecoastcollege.com. For fall registration information,
call (714) 432-5072.
