Local preps named All-CIF

Prep athletes from three Huntington Beach schools earned All-CIF
Southern Section status for 2004 in baseball and boys volleyball.
Huntington Beach High’s Trey Valbuena and Brandon McLaughlin were
named to the Division I boys volleyball team. Valbuena, who plays
opposite, was one of two sophomores named to the second team.
McLaughlin, a senior who played middle blocker, was on the third
team.
Ocean View had two volleyball players make the Division III squad.
Kevin Chapman, a junior setter, was named to the second team and Brad
Sweezy, a sophomore middle blocker, was a third team selection.
Sweezy was the lone sophomore selected to the all-division team.
In baseball, two locals were named to the Division I baseball
team.
Huntington Beach’s Hank Conger was the only sophomore named to the
second team, which also included Marina senior Brandon Parillo.
Conger played catcher and in the infield for the Oilers. Parillo was
Marina’s top pitcher.
Ocean View junior Jeff Roth was named to the Division III first
team in baseball. Roth pitched and played infield for the Seahawks.
