Favorite golf moment: Tallying his first eagle, on the par-3 18th
hole at Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles in 1964. Rogers was playing in a foursome with Nick Rhoades, Roger Cleveland, the
developer of Cleveland irons, and Brian Gaddy, a top amateur at the
time. The foursome played behind the USC golf team during a practice
round. Rogers used a 6-iron. “The ball one-hopped into the cup,” said
Rogers, an assistant basketball coach at the school at the time. “We
were the last group of the day. The varsity players stood on the
hillsides behind the green.”

Noteworthy: Rogers, a star guard on the USC men’s basketball team
in the 1950s, has been president and chief executive of Goodwill for
three years. Rogers, who coached the UC Irvine men’s basketball team
for two years from 1965-67, has served as Chairman of the Board for
the Second Harvest Food Bank and was president of the Harbor Area
Boys Club, among several charities he has donated time to.
