Chandy, Gordon earn elite status

Sage Hill School sophomore Zach Chandy has been named Academy League

boys track and field Athlete of the Year, while Lightning junior

Laura Gordon earned the same distinction among girls competitors.

Chandy finished second in CIF Southern Section Division IV in the

200- and 400-meter runs. He is also first-team all-league in the 100,

200 and 400.

Gordon was the league champion in the 100 and the triple jump.

Joining Gordon on the girls first team is Amy Werbiln, a junior

discus thrower.

Gordon is a second-team honoree this season in the 300 hurdles.

The Lightning boys 1,600 relay team of Chandy, Chris Neale, Mike

Vogue and Tim Lefter is first-team all-league.

Braden Barnett is a first-team choice in the shot put and discus.

Barnett has also been named to the second team in the 100 and the

400 relay, the latter along with Neale, Ian Dull and Matt Sanford.

Sanford is a second-team pick in the 200.
