Ramirez, Macleod shut out Angels
Gabriel Ramirez and Kyle Macleod combined on a shutout and Scott
Martin smacked a pair of home runs as the Diamondbacks notched a big
victory in Huntington Valley Little League Majors Division play by
defeating the Angels, 6-0.
The two home runs gives Martin four on the year.
Ben Hunt also joined the home run derby by hitting his first of
the year, Daniel Uberin had an RBI, Michael Pellegrino singled and
scored a run and A.J. Libunau doubled.
For the Angels, Jordan Herman, Jack Dilbeck, Jullien Herrera and
Riley Baggott all had hits.
In other Majors games:
Dodgers 9 Braves 3
The Braves jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead but were shut out
by Dodger pitchers Bradley Schultz and Ryan Little the remainder of
the game.
Adam Rodriguez had an RBI fly out for the Dodgers, who took
control of the game with a five-run third inning.
Hits by Austin Raban, Kyle Insley and a double by Austin Green
were followed by a two-run single by Little.
Insley gained an additional two RBI in the fourth inning and the
Dodgers’ final run came on Sam Colton’s RBI in the sixth.
Chris Guillen had a pair of hits and an RBI and Dane Delaney had
an RBI for the Braves.
Pirates 11 A’s 2
Max Talbert’s two-run double in the second inning got the Pirates,
champions of the second half of play, off and running against the
A’s.
They scored three more runs behind hits in the third inning by
Drake Vanderpool, Nick Mazzone, Alex Talbert and Josh Huffstettler.
Hits by Ryan Hakes, Daren Martinez and Talbert also led to runs in
the fourth inning and hits by Tyler Kerns, Zach Michaels and Mazzone
in the fifth led to six more runs.
The A’s scored their first run when Nick Miller’s single scored
Austin Stephens in the first inning. Their final run was scored in
the fifth when Richard Varella doubled and later scored.
At Ocean View Little League:
Majors Division
Marlins 7, Angels 6
Kyle McCarthy scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth
inning to lift the Marlins to their fourth consecutive victory.
McCarthy had advanced to third base on Garrick Danners’ double,
then stole home.
Derek Hintz had an RBI triple and stole home and Brandon Holland
had an RBI for the Marlins.
Marlins 13, Dodgers 6
In one of the league’s longest games of the year, the Marlins
defeated the Dodgers in a 12-inning affair.
Cameron Mahdad had an RBI single, Matt Deaner singled home two
more runs, Jacob Schmidt had an RBI single as the Dodgers pushed
across seven runs in the 12th inning.
Mathews closed on the mound and struck out three in the bottom of
the 12th.
Marlins 5, Indians 4
Cameron Mahdad’s double scored Jared Shaft in the bottom of the
third to give the Marlins their first run en route to the victory.
Derek Hintz delivered a two-run triple and later scored to
complete a four-run inning.
Matt Deaner, who singled, scored when Marlins relief pitcher Karl
Baranov tripled to centerfield.
Marlins 6, Indians 5
In a tiebreaker from a game originally started in April, the
Marlins went nine innings to subdue the Indians.
In the top of the ninth, Marlins pitcher Matt Deaner struck out
two as the Indians went down in order. In the bottom of the ninth,
Cameron Mahdad began a Marlins rally with a line drive single to left
field. Derek Hintz followed with a line drive single to centerfield
and Brandon Holland loaded the bases with a walk.
Deaner then gave himself the pitching win by smashing a
run-scoring double to centerfield.
A’s 11, Angels 4
Jon Combest had two RBI singles, Evan Archer finished with a pair
of RBIs, Joseph Savistano doubled and singled, Bynum and Forest
Turner each had an RBI single, Jeff Guzman tripled and Michael
Feirstein had a pair of hits to power the A’s.
With his single, Archer extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The A’s pitching staff of Jon Combest and Andrew Bynum teamed up
for the win by throwing a one-hitter with six strikeouts.
For the Halos, Ben Albert RBI tripled and Trey Gourdine gained an
RBI on a fielder’s choice.
