Robbery suspects save face plate
A group of young men assaulted another group of men in their car,
forcibly taking the face plate from the car’s stereo Monday evening,
according to a Newport Beach police report.
The group of about five men, described only as being in their
mid-20s and wearing white T-shirts, approached the car, which was
stopped at the intersection of 28th Street and Newport Boulevard, the
report said.
They then yelled, pushed and punched a front-seat passenger,
police said. Another passenger sitting in the back tried to defend,
but also got hit by the assailants, according to the report.
One of the men then reached into the car and took the stereo face
plate, police said. A witness sitting outside a restaurant told
police he heard one of the assailants yell “Pomona” as he assaulted
the group of people in the car.
The report did not say the incident was gang-related. Police are
investigating the incident as a robbery.
Costa Mesa man who killed his son dies
Norman Hansen, who police say shot his son, David, 43, to death
and then turned the gun on himself Friday, died Sunday.
Hansen, 70, killed his son because David terrorized his parents,
neighbors said Friday.
David, who lived with his parents in their Mesa North house, had a
lengthy police record over the past 20 years and was arrested several
times, often acting violently toward police officers, said Lt. John
FitzPatrick of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Because Norman Hansen killed himself, no charges will be filed,
FitzPatrick said.
