Three students from Huntington Beach have graduated from Azusa
Pacific University. Katie N. Layton earned a bachelor’s degree in
psychology, Megan Elizabeth Radebaugh graduated with a master’s
degree in education and Johnathan Barry Martinez earned a master’s
degree in religion ...Three students at Huntington Beach High School
were awarded the Linda Kimoto Memorial Scholarship, which is given to
“scholar volunteers” and students showing strong improvement. The
2004 winners were Ashley Hicks, Helen Ho and Karen Nguyen. The
Huntington Beach High School Parent Teacher Student Assn. also
awarded scholarships to Yusuf Azizi, Kathryn Chan, Virginia Do, Joel
Kaluzny, Ryan Kokubun, Brian Paullins, Monica Pearce and Evan Tamura.
The scholarships were given to students showing high overall academic
achievement, school and community involvement. The students will be
recognized at the June 8 Distinguished Oiler Ceremony. The amount of
all the scholarships was $300 ... Air National Guard Airman First
Class Adam M. Huntsinger has graduated from basic military training
at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Over the course of
six weeks, Huntsinger received physical training, rifle marksmanship,
field training exercises and special training in human relations. He
is the son of Huntington Beach resident Kim Huntsinger ... Two
Huntington Beach residents were awarded Outstanding Graduate honors
at Cal State Long Beach. After 31 years of traveling, directing
theater and acting, Craig Fleming returned to college to get his
degree. He hopes to become a college acting teacher. After spending
more than 20 years as a corporate human resources manager, Lisa
Biakanja earned her bachelor’s degree at Cal State Long Beach, and
will soon enter the teaching credential program. She lost her
daughter, Kristy, to sudden infant death syndrome in 1982. She is
active in several community organizations, such as the Guild for
Infant Survival, an organization that supports family members who
have lost a child to SIDS.
