Fighting the ‘fight on’ representation
I would like to thank Pilot reporter Marisa O’Neil for her recent
article about Harbor View Elementary School in Corona del Mar and our
upcoming birthday party to celebrate 50 years of serving the students
of that wonderful community.
She chatted with me about my years of teaching at Harbor View and
in the course of the conversation, I mentioned that my own children
(Morgan, Matt and Brad) had attended school there and gone onto
graduate from Corona del Mar High School. With a bit of modesty, I
also happened to mention that they went on to graduate, as well, from
various Universities of California (Irvine, Los Angeles and Berkley)
-- not, as was written, from USC. USC is a fine school, but we’re
definitely a UC family.
Further, I would like to invite all your readers who have an
interest in Harbor View to join us in our party on May 27. Please
visit the “hb50.com” web site for more information and an invitation.

Librarians’ contributions deserving of praise
I am calling in regard to Andrea Lingle, with the Mariners Branch
Library, who retired after more than 20 years. I think that it’s long
overdue. I think that we should have a little more recognition for
our librarians as we do for our teachers.
I think librarians have not gotten their due. My children always
went to the Newport Beach Library and they always had such warm
relationships with all of the librarians. And I think this is very
important in a child’s life, the librarian as well as the teacher.
So much so that my older daughter decided that was what she wanted
for her career and has her degree in library science. So I think
librarians are very important and they’re not getting their day in
the sun.
