Rotary clinches Majors Division title
Rotary registered its 10th consecutive victory and clinched the
Laguna Beach Little League Majors Division championship in the
process by shutting out the San Juan Capistrano Yankees, 5-0.
The victory ensures the team a spot in the upcoming Tournament of
Champions.
Rafael Vickers figured prominently in the win. He went three for
three and pitched three scoreless innings.
Vickers doubled in the fourth inning and scored on Brett
Linkletter’s ground out, which gave Rotary a 3-0 lead.
Rotary had taken a 1-0 lead when Drew Wheeler got an infield
single, brother, Alex Wheeler, walked, Sammy Witte had an infield
single and Mikey Rubel singled in the first run.
Chris Lavery drew a bases loaded walk to force in another run for
a 2-0 advantage.
In other games:
Rotary 8, VFW 5
Rotary overcame a 4-0 deficit by scoring six runs in the fourth en
route to a three-run victory.
Hits by Mikey Rubel, Chris Lavery, Brett Linkletter and Drew
Wheeler ignited the six-run rally.
Zach Riegler gave VFW a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo
home run.
Logan Schoembs had an RBI single in the fifth to narrow Rotary’s
lead to 6-5, and Linkletter prevented any further damage by making a
running catch in centerfield.
Lavery’s RBI double and an RBI single by Michael Maxsenti in the
bottom of the fifth added two insurance runs for Rotary.
Rotary 6, Sportsworld 2
Will Bonsey’s bases clearing double in the first inning gave
Rotary the lead and Michael Maxsenti hit a solo home run in the
second inning to propel Rotary to the win.
Taylor Preston’s RBI ground rule double had given Sportsworld a
1-0 lead after one-half inning, and his RBI single in the fifth
scored Ryan Raffo, who had doubled.
Steve Contursi finished with two hits for Sportsworld.
Alex Wheeler doubled for Rotary and Rafael Vickers, Bonsey and
Maxsenti combined to strike out 12.
American Legion 11 vs VFW 2
Arman Terrell hit a two-run home run in the second inning as
American Legion overpowered VFW.
Tyler MacRae had a two-run double, Alek Burk, Travis Woloson and
Austin Paxson each had an RBI single, Bren Jones doubled and Sean
Pidgen singled twice for American Legion.
Robbie McKnight singled and scored and Alex Bekken had an RBI
double for VFW.
American Legion 3 vs San Juan Angels 2
Alek Burk hit a clutch double and scored on a fielding error in
the bottom of the sixth to lift American Legion to victory.
Austin Paxson’s RBI grounder in the fifth inning had given
American Legion a 2-1 lead, but the Angels came back to tie the game
in the bottom-half of the inning.
Travis Woloson had an RBI single in the first inning, his hit
scoring Casey Miller, who had singled.
In AAA Division action:
Batting Cages 15, SG Roofing 8 James Lavery had two RBIs, Adam Rodner had an RBI single and Santi
Pierini doubled for SG Roofing.
First Team Nolan 13, SG Roofing 8 Nate Thomas had two hits and scored a run and Santi Pierini
doubled to lead SG Roofing on offense.
