Raising more than a few tempers
Who is more valuable to our community; a school administrator or a
teacher?
The district board of trustees has quietly gone along with what
can only be termed a blow to bureaucracy or empire building by the
chancellor and his cronies. The question shouldn’t be whether they
should be given an increase in their pay. The question should be why
are they still here?

I’m looking at this article and I’m thinking about all of the
students who could benefit from having that money put into the
classroom and not into a few people’s salaries. And having $10,000
for a travel budget is a shame.

I think it’s outrageous and I am a retired faculty member from
OCC.

I think it’s really ridiculous about the cuts in student education
and the raises for the administrators. I don’t believe that is
correct. I am a student and I’m going to be cut from my classes, many
of which I need. That’s baloney and it should not be happening.

I think the board members think we are the dumbest taxpayers in
the world. They just finished telling us that there was no money to
have summer school as is and now they give administrators a 24%
raise? They just made sure that the KOCE Foundation, which bought the
Public Broadcasting System station, won’t have to pay any interest.
Wow. How dumb do they think we are?

I’m currently a student at Orange Coast College and heard about
the raises for some of the employees. It doesn’t make sense because
if the school can’t afford to buy a simple scanner for the computer
labs then why are they boosting up other employees’ annual income.
And the classes are being canceled and were losing out on credits,
among other things. I think it’s ridiculous. It shouldn’t have been
done.

I think that the pay hike for the administrators of the Coast
Community College District is an egregious breach of trust at a time
when we are struggling to offer classes to students. It’s going to
cost us the equivalent of 27 sections of classes that could serve 800
students. So its not really the right time or place. I’m not sure if
there is a right time or place to award administrators a 24% increase
in their salary. I think I’d be hard pressed in my conscious to award
it.
