Private school named
top Christian workplace
Mariners Christian School in Costa Mesa was named the Best
Christian Workplace by the Best Christian Workplaces Institute.
The school took home top honors for private schools with 75 or
fewer employees. They were named from a pool of 107 Christian
organizations.
“The employees feel like a family,” headmaster Mary Letterman
said. “They feel well cared for. The quest for excellence has been
here from the beginning and our whole atmosphere allows a teacher to
feel comfortable and make suggestions.”
Letterman went to Grapevine, Texas, to pick up the award. This is
the second year for the awards and the first time the school had
applied.
Mariners opened in 1987 and moved to its new campus on Fischer
Avenue in 1995. It serves 650 students in kindergarten through eighth
grade.

New sewer project to
affect California Street
The Orange County Sanitation District will begin a sewer
construction project on California Street between Nevada and Gisler
avenues in June, three months later than originally planned.
The district intended to start the work in March but delayed to

pipes that will be constructed at 14 intersections along California
Street.
The sanitation district expects to close streets in various spots
between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. for up to two or three weeks at each
location. Work is expected to last through August. For information on
the project, call the construction hotline at (714)378-2965 or visit
