High-speed chase ends with 3 arrests
Westminster police officers arrested three people Monday after
they allegedly led authorities on about a 30-minute, high-speed chase
through several cities in a car reported stolen in Costa Mesa,
officials said.
The 1998 Honda Accord was reported stolen shortly before midnight
Sunday from a 7-Eleven store at Harbor Boulevard and Gisler Avenue,
Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Tim Starn said. He did not know the names of
those arrested.
A couple of hours later, Starn, who was flying in a police
helicopter at the time, said he noticed an intermittent signal from a
LoJack theft recovery system from a car near Bolsa Avenue and
Brookhurst Street in Huntington Beach.
The chase involved patrol units from several area police
departments. Authorities in the helicopter, shared by Costa Mesa and
Newport Beach, trailed the Accord when it was on the San Diego and
Garden Grove freeways. The chase ended near the Euclid Avenue offramp
on the Riverside Freeway, Starn said.
The car was damaged after the driver veered off the freeway and
hit a curb, he said. The car’s occupants were arrested as soon as
they ditched it at the Euclid offramp, Starn said.
