Going where no one has gone before
Were a few pointed ears too much to ask? And you call yourselves Star
Trek fans.
There was not a Captain Kirk or Mr. Spock in sight at the showing
of “Trekkies II” at the Newport Beach Film Festival last week. The
movie highlighted the life and times of those who are most truly
devoted to the deep space epic.
Apparently, those who came to view Roger Nygard’s sequel were
undercover fans of the late 1960s TV show -- turned recurring motion
picture -- disguising themselves as normal folks, in Hurley T-shirts,
shorts and flip flops.
They must have saved their secret hand signals and requests to be
“beamed up” for behind closed doors. Perhaps the Klingons have taken
a new surfer form. Perhaps the next episode will explore the ocean,
the real final frontier.
Regardless of the lack of Star Fleet officers on hand, it was
clear that all who attended had a wonderful smile. Congratulations to
Nygard for his second successful film about the true Trekkies.
Until next year, live long and prosper.
